Hey people. It's me. Again. IF anyone still remembers who I am that is. =) Anyway, the red hot topic now is...?

Nope, not SIA's newest acquisition, the Airbus A380, neither is it the widely debated 377a.

The HOTTEST thing around now is the stack of papers locked up in some room somewhere in MOE. The A LEVELS. Your whole education life (up till this level) is spent preparing for these exams. Barely a week to D-Day. Excited? You need professional help if you are. The whole world's going crazy over their impending doom - skipping meals, refusing to hydrate themselves often enough, trying to pull out what little hair is left on their heads, frying their little brain cells working overtime and ignoring their body's plea to rest.\

Therefore, I hereby declare that all you people mugging hard for THE exam of your lives should take a 5 minute water break now. Go release some water, and drink some more to cool your overfried brain down. Use the time to look at distant objects such as trees to rest and relax your eyes. If possible, take a 30-second shuteye, go wash your face and then continue with your revision. It might help you absorb better. Like Spongebob. -.-

Anyway, all the best for your revision, and may you have a good experience in the weeks to come. =)

SYF 2oo7 is Finally Over!

The NYJC Choir has been awarded a SILVER in this year's SYF Central Judging of Choirs! (:

It has been a great experience for all the choristers up on stage today.. And most, if not all, are relieved that they've done their best and that it's finally over..

In the short period of a few months.. The choir has advanced immensely.. From the beginnings.. When the 1st and 2nd intakers joined the choir family.. Still unsure of what to do.. To the preparation for our concert APASSIONATA.. Where bonds start to be forged between members.. Even between the choir and the teachers.. Up to the day of SYF.. Where pseudo families come up between the younger ones and the supposedly more mature ones.. XD

This only goes to show that the choir has come to be a close-knit community where FUN takes place.. Something that earlier batches believed in.. That choir be not just a CCA.. But an activity whereby members enjoy the company of each other.. And everyone has fun while striving to achieve a common goal.. Where people work together as ONE VOICE, ONE SOUL..

Yay! The farewell was FUN! (:

Thanks to the game masters Wanlin and Warren for coming up with the items; to all who participated in the activities. To Juilet for reserving the tables (yay, FOOD!), and all who helped out in one way or another (well, cus I have no idea... T.T). And to the arcade that provided us with about an hour of entertainment when we were waiting for... *ahem!*

Last but not least, thanks to the J1s who did the gifts! They're very sweet. Thanks a lot! n.n

Anyways, for those who -unfortunately/fortunately- was being "loved" by the red ants last night, please ensure that they didn't build a nest in your hair or something e.e; And to those who lost their voices from the food or shouting too much, please go drink more honey or whatever that works for you.

There will be practice for J1s and J1s only this coming Monday from 12noon to 4pm. And there'll be practice for both J1s and J2s on Friday, same time at music room. J2s are suppose to go from 3 to 4pm, though you are allowed to join earlier if you don't have any lectures after 12noon.

College Day is over, like yay!
Thanks to Ms Ong for her guidance, Daryl and Hensley for conducting the songs, dancers Yasi and Kaibin for the dance for Janger and everyone who did their part and contributed. Let us push the choir to greater heights (:

Anyways, there will be sectionals tomorrow. We'll be learning a song for Ms Eunice's wedding reception :D Your (*ahem*) "old" SLs will inform you about the times and venues, otherwise do contact them, J1s are suppose to do the teaching (yay! xDD), so yup.

Thanks to all's co-operation that allowed the interviews to run so smoothly yesterday even though it ended kind of late. We shall now just wait patiently for the results :D

Anyways, J1s are allowed not to go to the volley ball tournament tomorrow and J2s are reminded to conserve their voice no matter how much we love our school team and want them to win, because we have a performance for College Day this coming Saturday, so please hor.

Choir practice this Friday will be 3.30pm at music room, please bring along your scores for Muie Rendera. J1s, please go and listen to the midis beforehand as you might be the one who will be teaching your section the song - afterall, the J2s are not required to know the song.

As for the rehersal on Friday, it will start at 5.30pm in the hall, you do not need to bring the costume but wash and prepare it for Saturday instead. :)

Choir concerts, this May 2006

Apart from the concert by the Philippines choir this Sunday; YJC, ACJC and VJC will also be having theirs soon. You are encouraged to attend as J1s remember that you have to attend at least two concerts a year. So make a decision now :)

As for college day rehersal next Tuesday, it will be 4.15pm latest if you end earlier than that. Venue yet to be confirmed. Please also note that you're to attend your whatever tutorials/ remedials before going, even if the lesson ends at 5.30pm --; You are also reminded that it will be full dressed for us, so bring your costumes along!

Also, there's a concert by the University of Santo Thomas Singers from the Philippines this Sunday, 7.30pm at the Esplanade. Tickets priced at S$16 and S$21. Reminder for those who have forgotten, the times for choir practices every Mondays and Fridays have now been changed to 3.30pm. It will still be held at the music room and will try to end practices earlier, that of couse, have to depend on your performance as well :)

Also, please remember to keep quiet when others are talking, may it be Ms Ong or any others. This is a basic form of respect. Besides, being yelled at at the age of 17 doesn't really reflect good on yourself either, right? ^-^;

Please take initiative and revise the songs on your own accord - midis are updated on the Yahoo! Groups, so there should be no excuse. Until then!

Hey everyone.. Please do try to remember what was done during voice training today.. For eg. your posture, the pressure on the chest/diaphragm as you are singing, and the correct breathing techniques.. If you have a somewhat poor memory, do jot things down by the side of the score.. It helps in your singing as you are actively reminded of the expression, dynamics and other things to take note of while you are singing..

I would recommend using a highlighter to highlight the changes in dynamics, as well as certain tricky notes which are not sung well.. Use arrows, symbols, drawings, anything that you can understand to aid your singing.. A clean score is roughly equivalent to a set of clean lecture notes.. Have a pencil ready during practices and jot down anything that is said to improve your expression of the song..

Lastly, please do not talk while your Section Leaders are teaching/revising the songs.. That also applies when announcements are being made.. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, when Ms Ong is talking.. It puts her off when she is trying to impart her knowledge to her students, and her students are talking amongst themselves, not listening to her.. It is worse when after she corrected mistakes, the same mistake is made due to people not listening when she explained the correct way of expressing the song..

Hello people, choir practice on Friday will be 2.30pm at Music Room. If you're released later than that time and need lunch, please be there for practice no later than 30 mintues after your dismissal.

Also, please go and revise Sai-Sai Bushi, as well as all the acappella songs we've learnt (ie. The Lion Sleeps Tonight, If, Longer, Longest Time, Stand by Me). The songs are on Yahoo! Groups.

Yes, the long awaited and *cough* postponed farewell is finally here!

We'll be meeting tomorrow (23rd Dec 2005) 10.45am at Orchard MRT Station. The attire will be light-colored shirt, and shorts or bermudas. Please bring along your water bottle, poncho, cap, camera (if you have one), and some money (like, duh!).

Eh, no lah, we not that evil. But the farewell party has been postponed to after the J2s 'A' Levels, so there will be no outing tomorrow. Hope that all is happy with this.

5 IDEAs.. Important!!!

Ms Ong ask me to post 1, sianz ah.
These r the 5 IDEAs tt we learnt today:

1) Remember to check and correct body posture b4 singing( neck, shoulders and lower back).

2) When singing, it is crucial to support for the 1st 10 seconds.

3) Use the top half of ur face( and ur imagination) to breathe.

4) When singing high notes, make ur vowels tall.

5) Place voice out and project it so u sound loud( keep air flow fast).

Remember to carry these IDEAs out, Joshua.
